That's right! We're on the downhill segment of the course, and really only have one more day of classes to perfect our skills and take some final tests. Thursday marks the final day of the IDC, with Emergency First Response Instructor on Friday and then the Instructor Exam Orientation on Friday evening.
Today, we took a Standards and Procedures exam. I scored a 95% on the exam so I'm well on my way to being able to navigate both the Instructor Manual and the PADI Guide to Teaching. We also made another Knowledge Development Presentation, the topic of mine was Natural Navigation. PADI doesn't have a presentation to teach from for that course, so I wound up making my own PowerPoint and presenting it with that along with using the white board and talking to my students about the value of utilizing Natural Aids to Navigation Underwater.
This afternoon was another boat dive here in Key Largo. The skills that I had been assigned to teach were 1. Efficient Fin Kicks, and 2. Mask Removal, Replacement and Clearing. I nailed both of them, scoring a 4.7 and 5.0 out of 5 on each, respectively.
The dive itself was a fun dive, with a 60 minute bottom time and depth of 21' on a sandy bottom great for training. Some of the other skills that we went through that other students taught were the Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent and the Rigging and Surfacing of a Lift Bag (one of my favorite!)
Tonight's dinner was from a Mexican Food Truck that is parked about a block from here at an open air fruit and vegetable stand. One of my apartment mates is from Mexico, and they said that the food was authentic, very reasonably priced, and REALLY good - so we gave it a try and it was delicious!
It's been another long day, but the good news is that we get to sleep in a little bit in the morning in order to allow one of the other students time to take a make up exam.
I've spent the majority of the evening preparing my Knowledge Development Presentation and Confined Water Presentation for tomorrow - so check back then and I'll tell you what they were and how they went.
Have a GREAT night!
